    ‘AMMO’ Airmen run with Gold Star mother to honor veterans

    Munitions Airmen assigned to the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings and the 649th Munitions Squadron joined Gold Star Mother Cathy Powers during a 5K run June 21 to honor her son Senior Airman Bryce Powers and other veterans.

    External pylon training increases F-35A weapons payload capability

    Active duty and Reserve Airmen here recently initiated certification training to load external pylons on F-35As assigned to the 388th Fighter Wing. The removable pylons are used to secure external munitions under the aircraft’s wings greatly enhancing its combat capability. Up until now, maintainers and pilots have been training operationally here with internally-loaded munitions.

    Fighter wings successfully field test F-35A ammunition loader

    The 388th Fighter Wing, the Air Force’s first F-35 operational wing, recently received five F-35A bulk ammunition loaders for field use. Airmen extensively tested one of the loaders June 6-9 during an engineering validation and verification evaluation here. The mobile loader lets weapons experts safely and efficiently load 25mm ammunition into the F-35A while simultaneously unloading spent shells.
