New era in combat air power begins

Col. Bryan Radliff, 419th Fighter Wing commander, makes closing remarks during an F-35A Lightning II aircraft unveiling ceremony Oct. 14 at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The ceremony marked the formal beginning of F-35 operations at Hill, and commemorated the arrival of the first combat-coded F-35 aircraft at the base. Hill will receive a total of 72 F-35s on a staggered basis through 2019. The jets will be flown and maintained by Hill Airmen assigned to the active-duty 388th Fighter Wing and its Reserve component 419th Fighter Wing. (U.S. Air Force photo by R. Nial Bradshaw /Released)
