Captured here is the 560th Bomb Squadron’s Mohr crew, shot down by fighters while flying the 388th’s “Black Monday” mission to Stuttgart. Kneeling from left to right are TSgt. Hartzell H. Jones (Engineer), SSgt. Robert W. Wallin (Waist Gunner), SSgt. Robert R. Ammarell (Tail Gunner), SSgt. Rodric C. Beckham (Waist Gunner), TSgt. Halleck H. Hasson (Radio Operator), and SSgt. Bernard A. Becker (Ball Turret). Standing, left to right are 1st Lt. James G. Shilladay (Navigator), 1st Lt. Roy H. Mohr (Pilot), 2nd Lt. Elmer F. Schulz (Co-pilot) and 1st Lt. Ronald A. Marean (Bombardier). Of the ten-man crew, all of whom were on the fateful Stuttgart mission, three were killed in action (Mohr, Jones and Becker), six became POWs (Shilladay, Marean, Hasson, Wallin, Beckham and Ammarell), and one, co-pilot Schulz, remains missing in action to this day.
