This monument to the five members of the Karnezis crew lost on the fateful Stuttgart mission of September 6, 1943, was built by French citizens of the village of Champigny sur Yonne/La Chappelle Champigny, near the crash site about 60 miles southeast of Paris, and dedicated on September 6, 1947. The five 388th Airmen men are buried in a small cemetery nearby. (Courtesy Mr. Claude Petit)
