Throwing down the hammer

Senior Airman Keegan Vanderpoel, a munitions specialist with the 4th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., builds a precision-guided munition here July 30 in preparation for the Air Force air-to-ground Weapons System Evaluation Program known as Combat Hammer. During the Aug. 4-22 event, four units deployed to Hill AFB and six units travelled directly to the Utah Test and Training Range to drop munitions in realistic combat scenarios. With support from the 388th Range Squadron, Airmen in Eglin AFB's 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron, 53rd Wing, will collect and analyze data on how these precision weapons performed and their suitability for use in War on Terror deployments.
