Leaders from the 388th Fighter Wing welcomed honorary commanders for an interactive tour here March 21.

"This was truly a great opportunity to see our Airmen in action," said Kaysville City Mayor Steve Hiatt, 388th FW Honorary Commander. "There are so many people working full time to support these missions and keep us safe, most of whom we never see."

The honorary commander program pairs local civic leaders with wing, group and squadron leaders, giving them an opportunity to learn about wing operations.

The day entailed highlights from the wing featuring the maintenance and operations group.

Activities included touring the F-16 static displays, emergency aircraft egress, and the Utah Test and Training Range's Mission Control Center.

"Whether it's the maintenance group, weapons, mechanics, flight tower, UTTR staff, those testing ejection, it takes thousands of dedicated souls working together to help protect our freedoms. Without all of them, we could never make it work," said Hiatt.

Hiatt is one of 13 honorary commanders in the 388th FW. Others include Rep. Greg Hughes, 388th FW vice commander; Todd Kiser, 388th FW command chief; John Bahney, 388th Maintenance Group; Chris Bleak, 388th Operations Group; Stan Kaminski, Headquarters Utah Test and Training Range; L.T. Weese, 388th Component Maintenance Squadron; Jeff Von Colln, 4th Fighter Squadron; Damon Kirchmeier, 421st Fighter Squadron; Syracuse Mayor Jamie Nagle, 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron; Kearston Cutrubus, 388th Maintenance Operations Squadron; Michael Andersen, 388th Operations Support Squadron and Dwight Baldwin, 729th Air Control Squadron.
