34th FS, 388th OSS welcome new commanders

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Lt. Col. Tanner Gibson took command of the 34th Fighter Squadron during a change of command ceremony at Hill Air Force Base, on June 6, 2021. Lt. Col. Tanner Gibbson previously served as the director of operations for the squadron.

The FS also bid farewell Lt. Col. Aaron Cavazos, who has served as the squadron commander since 2019. Cavazos is the 3rd commander since the squadron’s inception in 2015 and is headed to another assignment in Washington, D.C.

The 34th FS, the “Rude Rams,” is one of three fighter squadrons that make up the 388th Operations Group, the other two squadrons are the 4th FS, the “Fightin’ Fuujins,” and the 421st FS, the “Black Widows.”

The week prior, Lt. Col. Maxwell Cover took command of the 388th Operations Support Squadron from Lt. Col. Brian Hellesto. Cover previously served as the 388th Fighter Wing chief of Safety. Hellosto had helmed the OSS since 2019. The OSS is responsible for operational planning, pilot training and flight scheduling, intelligence, weapons and tactics development, mobility, life support activities, and personnel management for the 388th OG.
